Our Story

AfriNov began in the aftermath of Kenya's post-election violence of 2007/2008, whencommunities were fractured, trust had collapsed and the need for a different approach to conflict was undeniable.

What started as a quiet partnership between Kenyan peace activists and British Quakers has, over fifteen years, grown into something far more significant.
Today, Africa Centre for Nonviolence and Sustainable Impact with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, is a leading organization working at the intersection of peacebuilding & nonviolence, inclusive governance and community development, with a presence across 8 counties; Nairobi, Kisumu, Uasin-Gishu, Kakamega, Trans-Nzoia, Bungoma, Nandi and HomaBay.

Through partnership our work has extended into Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Our model is simple, but its impact is profound: we educate and support people on how to preempt their own conflict. We train community members to recognize tension before it becomes violence, to exercise their civic rights, and to hold their institutions and leaders accountable.

Then we step back, because sustainable peace is never built by outsiders. It is built by thecommunities themselves. Every trainer we have equipped, every organization we have helped establish, every election season we have navigated with communities, is evidence of what becomes possible when people are given not aid, but knowledge and skills.

AfriNov exists because peace and social change is not accidental. It is practiced and with the right support, it can be made possible and sustainable.
