The Africa Centre for Nonviolence and Sustainable Impact (AfriNov) is a registered and leading not-for-profit in Kenya as Company Limited by guarantee working in partnership with vulnerable and marginalized community groups and relevant state and non-state stakeholders. Our mission is based on non-violent action to promote sustainable peacebuilding, development, inclusive democracy and governance, along with research and evidence-based initiatives.

In Kenya, AfriNov has established a presence in Nairobi, Kisumu, Eldoret, Kakamega, and the Mt. Elgon regions. Our work goes beyond Kenya’s borders, where we have facilitated the training and establishment of robust community-oriented organizations dedicated to advancing nonviolent peacebuilding and community development initiatives in Rwanda, Burundi, and Congo.

Who We Serve

We serve communities and people affected by social injustice, violence and conflicts in East Africa.

Where We Operate

We currently operate in four regions in Kenya: Nairobi, North Rift, Nyanza and Western Kenya. Our other programs go beyond the four regions on a limited basis as dictated by funds and needs. We are working with communities through trained community resources persons (CRPs), community groups, civil society organizations, state and non-state stakeholders.

Following the post-election violence in Kenya in 2007/8, Kenya Quakers requested British Quakers support in challenging underlying root causes of violence. A small team of British Quakers traveled to Kenya, carried out a needs assesment. Together with Kenyan peace activists, British Quakers carried out a taster.

Partnership between Quakers Peace & Social Witness (QPSW) & Change for Peace International (CAPI) to establish an active nonviolence programme in Kenya.Adaptation of the QPSW programme to the Kenya socio-political context. September 2010: Project pilot in Western Province identification & training of 20 community resource persons in Western Province.

Advanced training for 20 community resource people & official hand-over of TTT training to Kenyan trainers. UK trainers exited from direct implementation of TTT.
2013
TTT Kenya expanded to Nyanza region.Exchange visit of peace actors from Burundi & Rwanda to Kenya.
2014
Kenyan TTT trainers train peace campaigners from Rwanda, Burindi & DRC. TTT Knya supports Rwanda Yearly Meeting (Quakers) & Miparec in Burundi to setup TTT projects. Several training of trainer workshops are held & Kenyan coaches support Rwandans & Burundians to set up projects.
2015
Participated in a mass civic education & public vetting forums before 2017 general  election through the good governance & responsive leadership campaign.
2017
Led in the delivery of advanced & top-up trainings in Rwanda & Burundi. Participated in the 1st East Africa TTT gathering held in Kigali, Rwanda.
2018
Registration of African Center for Nonviolence & Sustainable Impact (AfriNov)  by the government of Kenya.
2019
In January 2020, the Kenyans who started TTT 10 years ago launch their own organization: AfriNov.
