Helping Communities in Lobbying for Accountability for Public Resources

After receiving the TTT basic training, the group decided to work on the issue of lack of accountability by the CDF in Kwanza in expenditures in various projects. One being a nearby primary school where CDF had spent a lot of funds in construction of classes that were not to the standard, some even had began to show big cracks on the wall even before the project ended. Some strategies adopted in the campaign were:

Campaign strategies – Letter Writing, Community forums, Media advocacy of the campaign.

Media campaigning became very strong that led to the member of the parliament respond to the issue fast unlike the letter writing and it led to a community forum being held over the issue.  Armed with evidence, the members of Bidii oversight forum were able to present facts to the community and the member of the parliament and finally the building were repaired.

A member of Bidii Oversight Forum looking at Bidii primary deplorable classes are just but one of the examples of results of poor leadership and corrupt leaders who are not responsive to the community needs. The group after getting informed on their rights to hold leaders accountable began a journey to address the issue by ensuring that the CDF office is held accountable and responsible in restoring the status of the institution.
